Most problems are something simple — a kinked hose, a full lint screen, an uneven load. Pick your machine and what's going on, and we'll walk you through it.
Which machine?
What's going on?
Pick your machine above to see common fixes.
Five minutes a month keeps it running for years.
Every loadClean the dryer lint screen. Spread the washer load evenly. Check pockets.
Every monthRun a hot, empty washer-clean cycle. Wash the lint screen with soapy water.
Every few monthsCheck both machines are still level and the dryer vent hose isn't crushed.
Every yearCheck water hoses for bulges or cracks. Get the dryer vent line cleaned.
Loud, shaking, or walking
Banging during spin, or moving across the floor.
Some extra noise is normal. Our top-loads run an upgraded heavy-duty suspension that lasts years instead of months — it's louder than a new machine. Banging or walking isn't normal. That's what these fix.
Level itRock it corner to corner. If it wobbles, turn the front feet until all four sit firm, then tighten the lock nuts.
Spread the load outPause, open the lid, and move clothes around the drum. One heavy item alone — a rug, a comforter — throws the spin off.
Don't overload or run it emptyFill loosely, up to the top row of holes. An empty spin wears on the suspension.
Check the floorBouncy floors make any washer shake. Rubber anti-vibration pads under the feet help a lot.
Won't drain
Water is left in the tub after the cycle.
Straighten the drain hoseThe gray hose behind the washer gets kinked when it's pushed back. Pull it out a few inches.
Check how deep it goesOnly 4–5 inches of hose should be inside the wall pipe. Deeper than that blocks air and slows draining.
Test your house drainPull the hose out and pour a bucket of water into the wall pipe. If it backs up, the clog is in your home's plumbing, not the washer.
Run Drain & SpinRun it by itself and watch for water coming out of the hose.
Prevent it: empty pockets — coins, hair ties, and small socks are what usually jam the pump.
Won't spin
The cycle ends but clothes are soaking wet.
Close the lid all the wayTop-loads won't spin with the lid open. Make sure nothing is caught under it.
Rebalance the loadIf clothes are bunched on one side, it stops to protect itself (some show "uL"). Spread them out and run Drain & Spin.
Take some outA drum packed tight can't get up to speed.
Make sure it drainedIt won't spin with water still in the tub. If there's water, see Won't drain.
Leaking water
A puddle under or behind the washer. First, find where it's coming from.
At the water hosesCheck both ends of each hose. Each needs its rubber washer inside. Hand-tight plus a quarter turn with pliers — don't crank it.
At the wall drainThe drain hose can pop out during a hard drain. Zip-tie it to the water line so it stays put. If the wall pipe overflows, your house drain is backed up.
Under the machine — moved it yourself? There are drain tubes inside, underneath the washer, that can get jostled loose if it's bumped, tipped, or laid down during transport. If water is coming from underneath, stop using it, turn off both water valves, and text us a photo — don't tip it over to look.
Too many sudsToo much detergent or non-HE soap foams over. Use the label amount — usually less than you think.
Front-load door sealWipe the rubber seal. One sock or hair caught in it stops the door from sealing.
Prevent it: moving it yourself? Keep it upright and strapped in, and avoid hard bumps. Once a year, check the water hoses — bulging or cracked, swap them for braided stainless.
Won't fill or keeps filling
Water trickles in, never fills, or drains out while it fills.
Open both valves all the wayTurn the hot and cold faucets behind the washer fully counterclockwise.
Unpinch the hosesWater hoses get squeezed when the washer is pushed against the wall.
Drains while filling? The drain hose is too deep in the wall pipe and siphoning. Pull it up so only 4–5 inches is inside.
Clean the inlet screensValves off, unscrew the hoses from the washer, and rinse the little mesh screens in the ports. Central Texas water clogs them.
Won't start
Nothing happens, or the lights are on but it won't run.
Plug and breakerPush the plug in firmly. Check the breaker, and press Reset if the outlet has one.
Close the lid or doorIt won't start unless the latch clicks.
Control lock or delayIf a lock light is on, hold Control Lock for 3 seconds. Make sure Delay Start isn't set.
Reset itUnplug for a full minute, plug back in, pick a cycle, press Start.
Smells musty or like sewer
The washer or your clothes come out smelling off.
Leave it openLeave the lid or door open between loads so it dries out.
Run a cleaning cycleHottest, biggest cycle, empty, with a washer-cleaner tablet or 2 cups of white vinegar. Never mix vinegar and bleach.
Use less detergentExtra soap leaves a film where mildew grows.
Sewer smell? The drain hose may be too deep in the wall pipe. Pull it up to 4–5 inches.
Prevent it: move wet loads to the dryer right away, and run a cleaning cycle once a month.
Won't drain or door won't open
Water is in the drum and the door stays locked.
Wait 2–3 minutesThe door stays locked until the drum is empty. Don't force it.
Check the drain hoseNo kinks behind the washer, and only 4–5 inches inside the wall pipe.
Clean the pump filterSmall door on the bottom front. Towels and a shallow pan down first. Unscrew slowly, let it drain, pull out what's stuck, screw it back snug.
Prevent it: clean that filter every couple of months and empty pockets.
Loud or shaking
Vibrating hard during the spin.
Level itAdjust the feet until it doesn't rock, then tighten the lock nuts.
Balance the loadA comforter or rug alone bunches up on one side. Add a couple of towels.
Check the floorFront-loads spin fast. On a bouncy floor, anti-vibration pads make a big difference.
Takes forever to dry
Clothes are still damp after a full cycle.
Clean the lint screenEvery load. Once a month, wash it with soapy water — dryer sheets leave a film that blocks air.
Uncrush the vent hosePull the dryer out about 4 inches. Keep the hose short and straight. Swap plastic or thin foil for semi-rigid metal.
Feel the outside ventWith it running, the flap outside should open with strong, warm air. Weak air means a clogged vent line.
Check the washer spinDripping-wet clothes take two dryer cycles. See Won't spin.
This one matters: a clogged vent is the #1 cause of dryer fires. If it's been over a year, get the vent cleaned.
Runs but no heat
The drum spins but the air is cold.
Reset the breakerElectric dryers use a double breaker. If half trips, it spins with no heat. Flip it fully off, then on.
Check the setting"Air Fluff" or "No Heat" runs cold on purpose.
Clear the airflowClean the lint screen and straighten the vent hose. A blocked vent makes it shut its heat off.
Runs but no heat
The drum spins but the air is cold.
Smell gas? Stop. Don't touch switches or outlets. Leave the house and call your gas company or 911 from outside.
Open the gas valveThe handle on the gas pipe should line up with the pipe. Crosswise means off.
Check the setting"Air Fluff" or "No Heat" runs cold on purpose.
Clear the airflowClean the lint screen and straighten the vent hose.
Good to know: we don't connect gas, and gas hookups aren't covered by our guarantee. For gas line work, call a licensed plumber.
Won't start
Nothing happens when you press Start.
Shut the door firmlyIt won't run unless the door switch clicks.
Hold StartMany dryers need a 2–3 second press.
Plug and breakerElectric: big 240V plug, double breaker — flip fully off and on. Gas dryers still need a regular outlet.
Control lockIf a lock light is on, hold the lock button for 3 seconds.
Squeaking or grinding
A new noise while it tumbles.
Check the drumCoins, buttons, or a bra underwire rattling around make a lot of noise.
Shoes or one big item?Thumping from a single heavy item is normal.
Level itA dryer that rocks buzzes against the wall or washer.
A steady squeal or grinding usually means a worn part — tap No below and send us a video with the sound on.
Too hot or burning smell
The outside is hot to the touch, or it smells burnt.
Burning smell or smoke? Turn it off and unplug it now. Don't run it again until it's checked. Gas dryer and you smell gas: leave and call your gas company or 911.
Clear the lintA packed screen or vent traps heat. Clean the screen and check the outside vent flap.
Uncrush the vent hosePull the dryer out and straighten the hose behind it.
First run after a move?A light smell for a few minutes is usually dust burning off. If it lasts, stop and text us.
Did that fix it?
Nice — you're all set.
A little upkeep keeps it that way: clean the lint screen every load and run a washer-clean cycle once a month.
Let's get you sorted.
